Open Thread: Top Ten Lists for 2024!

Well, that was certainly a year, wasn’t it? Before we step into the dreaded new year, let’s take a look back at what you, my faithful readers, looked at the most in 2024

  6. Anime Review: Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai (2023)
  7. Book Review: The Blue Fairy Book
  8. Manga Review: Shonen Jump Weekly 2024
  9. Manga Review: Doraemon, Vol. One
  10. Anime Review: My Love Story

For the first time ever, books do not dominate the Top Ten! Instead, people really wanted to know all about the ending season of Kid Cosmic.

Top Ten Posts of All Time

King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table
  1. Book Review: King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table
  2. Book Review: The Financial Expert
  3. Book Review: The Black Tulip
  4. Book Review: The Sea-Wolf
  5. TV Review: Mannix

  7. Manga Review: Vagabond Volume 1
  8. Anime Review: Urusei Yatsura
  9. Anime Review: Baki (2018)
  10. Book Review: Octavia’s Brood

However the sheer weight of tradition keeps books on top of the all-timers list, and Arthur is still king.

Top Ten Anime and Webtoons

Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac
From left: Dragon, Pegasus, Andromeda and Cygnus
  1. Kid Cosmic Season Three
  2. Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac
  3. Mari-Kari
  4. Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai (2023)
  5. My Love Story
  6. Baki (2018)
  7. Case Closed: The Culprit Hanzawa
  8. Onmyoji (2023)
  9. Beastars
  10. Ghost Stories (Dub)

Saint Seiya, Baki and Beastars all had new seasons this year, but the big and sad surprise was a surge of interest in obscure web series Mari-Kari. RIP Shannon Doherty.

Top Ten Magazines

  1. The Continental Literary Magazine: Beast (2023)
  2. Gamma 3
  3. Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine May/June 2021
  4. Oh Reader, Issue 001
  5. American Short Fiction Summer 2022
  6. Analog Science Fiction & Fact January/February 2024
  7. Planet Stories Summer 1949
  8. Analog Science Fiction Science Fact December 1984
  9. Marvel Science Fiction November 1951
  10. The Shadow #60: Prince of Evil | Messenger of Death | Room 1313

My magazine reviews usually pull very few views, more’s the pity, especially the literary magazines. But the Hungarians really came through for their hometown product this year.

Top Ten Manga

Dr. Stone
  1. Dr. Stone
  2. Shonen Jump Weekly 2024
  3. Doraemon, Vol. 1
  4. My Dress-Up Darling 1
  5. Vagabond Volume 1
  6. Sanctuary
  7. Batman: Justice Buster Vol. 1
  8. Vagabond Volume 2
  9. Berserk Volumes 31 & 32
  10. My Hero Academia

Dr. Stone is approaching its final anime season, so there’s new interest. And this year people seemed really interested in what the Shonen Jump creators were up to.

Top Ten Books

The Blue Fairy Book
  1. The Blue Fairy Book
  2. The Crystal Stopper
  3. The Sea-Wolf

  7. Mary Poppins Comes Back
  8. The Early Cases of Kogoro Akechi
  9. Arsene Lupin
  10. The Beast with Five Fingers

This one’s honestly a bit baffling. Is there some sort of Andrew Lang anniversary I missed? Were people trying to find more on Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and stumbled across this book review? What’s clear is that new books are not what my readers are looking for.

Top Ten Movies and TV

Firecracker (1981)
Susanne fends off some hotel thieves. This isn’t the most famous fight scene in the movie, but I pretend to be a family friendly blog.
  1. Firecracker (1981)

  7. Blade Runner
  8. Fist of Fury (1972)
  9. Airplane! (1980)
  10. Legend of the Red Dragon

Some of you folks may have remembered the same movie trailer I did. Or maybe you came for the lady in underwear. Again, there was a surge of Dolly Parton fans in December that boosted her movie.
