Webtoon Review: Kid Cosmic Season Three
SPOILERS for Seasons One and Two, you might want to check the earlier reviews.
Having gathered the thirteen Stones of Power, the Local Heroes have at last defeated Erodius the Planet Killer and saved Earth. But pieces of the destroyed planets have fallen all over our green world, and to combat the villains empowered by these stones, the Local Heroes have become the Global Heroes. Then it is rumored that there is a Fourteenth Stone and the search for that begins. Everything’s coming up roses, and Kid Cosmic is finally living out his superhero dreams.
But anything that seems too good to be true…isn’t. It’s quickly discovered there’s a cruel twist to the situation. Frustration mounts for Kid as he and the Local Heroes must save the day another way.
The third season of this mostly humorous take on the superhero genre focuses in on Kid Cosmic’s grandfather, Papa G. He has to face the possibility that shielding Kid from further disappointment and loss is long-run harmful, and it’s time to face his own mortality.
It’s a very short season, so there isn’t a lot of time to fit all the characters in and thus there tends to be just quick moments for most of the cast rather than having them fleshed out. The ending is a bit more realistic (given the genre) than was at first suggested (the season trailer is deliberately deceptive), which makes the series overall bittersweet.
There’s excellent use of music to set mood and comment on the storyline.
If you liked the first two seasons, this is a decent ending that works.
